Reliable Computing Systems for Space

Objective of the research is the definition of re-configurable systems based on SRAM-based FPGAs. Topics of interest are:

  • Definition of novel techniques for fault detection and tolerance in FPGAs, in particular addressing radiation-induced faults (SEU – Single Event Effects).
  • Radiation ground testing, to validate structural and behavioral models of the components as well as SEU mitigation techniques specific for these devices.
  • Fault injection, to simulate SEUs in an FPGA. We have designed and implemented a tool (h/w and s/w), based on device reconfiguration.

The research activity is performed in close cooperation with the COSYSpace (COmputing SYstem for SPACE) Group of the INAF-IASF in Milan.
